Popular ride-sharing service Uber has begun operating in the Northern Territory.
Uber joins competitor Hi Oscar which launched in February, bringing the number of ride-sharing drivers to almost 250, Infrastructure Minister Eva Lawler says.
"The Territory Labor government made an election promise to bring ride-sharing here... today marks the delivery of the second ride-sharing company to the NT," Ms Lawler said.
Legislative changes last year including a reduction in annual taxi licence fees and a $1 levy on all commercial trips paved the way for ride-sharing in the Territory.
The Uber app will go live at 3pm on Thursday and Ms Lawler is expected to be the Territory's inaugural passenger.
"It is also great news for people living and visiting the Top End to have more options for getting around the city safely," the minister said.
