An Uber driver has been denied bail after appearing in a Gold Coast court charged with raping a female passenger.
It's alleged the 24-year-old driver picked up the 20-year-old woman last Saturday night, before stopping the car, reclining her seat then sexually assaulting her.
The Gold Coast Bulletin reports the Indian hospitality student had only been driving for the ride-sharing company for two months before the alleged assault.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges in Southport Magistrates Court on Saturday, with his lawyer saying he had no other criminal history and the incident "appeared isolated".
However, the magistrate refused bail, saying the "vulnerable" passenger has been "preyed" on by the man.
