Ugandan women rebuild after conflict

In Uganda, thousands of women and girls still live with the effects of years as sex slaves, but they're slowly rebuilding their lives and communities, Jeannette Francis reports.

It's been more than a century since International Women's Day was first marked, but millions of women around the world continue to suffer, particularly in Africa.

Throughout the continent, new mothers still die from pregnancy-related causes.

Child marriage is rife and literacy rates for women are far lower than those of men.

In Uganda, thousands of women and girls still live with the effects of years as sex slaves and soldiers under the Lord's Resistance Army.

But they're slowly rebuilding their shattered lives and communities.

SBS Reporter Jeannette Francis travelled to the north of the country to talk with them.
