Sonia Davies was feeling “so lucky” after successfully undergoing surgery, she phoned her family and urged them to buy a lottery ticket immediately.
The request has paid huge dividends - with the Davies family taking out the $107 million (£61 million) prize.
The Welsh family, from Monmouthshire in Wales, received a call from Sonia, 53, who declared she was "on a roll" days after beating a deadly tumour after undergoing keyhole surgery at a world-leading treatment centre in Tampa, Florida.
She told her daughter Stephanie, 23, to enter the lottery prize.
The tickets were purchased with just 40 minutes to spare.
Ms Davies' ‘gut instinct’ proved correct, the family scooped £61,102,442,90 on the winning ticket.
“Not only did I feel like I had cheated death,” Ms Davies told the BBC.
“I felt we were on a roll that day so just thought why not do the lottery?
“I felt so lucky, it felt like everything was shining down on us. I feel like I’ve cheated death as well as becoming a multi-millionairess.”
The prize will be equally shared with Ms Davies partner Keith Reynolds, and daughters Courtney and Stephanie and her partner.
