British DJ Chris Moyles has set a new world record by staying on air for more than 50 hours, raising more than STG2 million ($A3.31 million) for UK charity Comic Relief in the process.
The DJ started his broadcast on BBC Radio 1 with sidekick "Comedy" Dave Vitty on Wednesday morning and finally came off air at 10.30am on Friday.
He signed off after 52 hours by thanking listeners for their "amazing generosity" and said he was "going to sleep for two whole weeks".
The total money raised reached STG2.4 million ($A3.97 million) at 10.10am after DJ Fearne Cotton told listeners she would present some of her show in a swimming costume if it hit the STG2 million ($A3.31 million) mark.
The station's website crashed this morning, with Moyles blaming people logging on to see Cotton.
He thanked listeners for donating money, including "that last rush of dirty old men" who pledged cash after Cotton's promise.
"The end result of this silly, silly show was Fearne Cotton in a swimsuit. Oh and Comic Relief got some money," he said.
