UN worker freed in central Africa

A UN worker taken hostage in the Central African Republic has been freed, a military spokesman says.

A foreign UN employee in the Central African Republic who was kidnapped by armed men from the anti-balaka militia has been freed, a military spokesman says.

"We have obtained the release of the employee with MINUSCA (the UN peacekeeping mission in CAR) and have handed her over," spokesman Igor Lamaka told AFP on Tuesday.

The release was confirmed by a Western source.
