Uncle accused of killing Sydney man

The man accused of fatally shooting 23-year-old Saif Jouda when he answered a late night knock on his front door is understood to be his uncle.

The man accused of murdering Sydney man Saif Jouda when he answered a late night knock on his door is believed to be his uncle.

Abdo Dwikat appeared in Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday charged with fatally shooting the 23-year-old at his Horsley Park home on April 23 last year.

Mr Jouda, described as an upstanding citizen, had only just moved from Palestine to Sydney and was planning to marry his fiancee.

Detective Superintendent Peter Lennon said information from witnesses had helped lead to the arrest of a 47-year-old man at Yennora on Friday.

Police on Saturday were unable to confirm multiple reports Dwikat, from Grantville, was Mr Jouda's uncle.

It is expected Dwikat will face court again next Friday for a bail application.

Superintendent Lennon told AAP Mr Jouda's family overseas had been notified of the arrest.

"They took it in their stride and are still recovering from the death of their relative," Supt Lennon said on Friday.

"They were most grateful to police for the investigations conducted.

"We will be in contact with them with any further developments."

Dwikat's arrest came just weeks after authorities released CCTV footage of a truck they believed was involved.

Sniffer dogs followed a scent from the crime scene to a footprint on the road, where they believe a truck was parked and used as a getaway vehicle.

Supt Lennon said there was a suspected motive for the killing that would be addressed in court, but he would not go into detail.
