Criminal charges have been recommended against two Queensland construction union officials over the alleged destruction of evidence called for by the trade unions royal commission.

The counsel assisting the commission has recommended that Queensland Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union secretary Michael Ravbar and former union state president David Hanna face charges over the alleged removal and subsequent destruction of several tonnes of union documents after a summons to produce the papers was received from the commission in April, 2014.

"The commission should find that Mr Ravbar and Mr Hanna's conduct was done with an intention to conceal the removal and destruction of documents," the recommendations state.
