Union royal commission response soon: Cash

The Turnbull government will make its formal response to the royal commission into trade unions before the July 2 election.

Employment Minister Michaelia Cash does not believe releasing the government's formal response to the Heydon royal commission into trade unions before the July 2 election will be seen as a political stunt.

She said the government has already made an initial response by attempting to re-introduce the Australian Building and Construction Commission legislation, as one trigger for the double-dissolution election.

"Our response is already in play, we will of course respond to the additional recommendations of Heydon over the next few weeks," Senator Cash told Sky News on Sunday.

Business Council of Australia chief executive Jennifer Westacott wants to see Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull talk more about industrial relations during the election campaign, particularly the ABCC.

She said bringing back the ABCC will be a "huge step" and have a flow on effect to restoring confidence and the integrity of the industrial relations system.

"We would have liked to have seen a more ambitious agenda by the government over the last three years on industrial relations," she told Sky News.
