Unlicenced driver 70km/h over limit in Vic

A South Australian man had his car impounded after being allegedly caught travelling at 174km/h in a 100km/h zone in rural Victoria.

A South Australian man who has never held a licence has been caught speeding at 174km/h in a 100km/h zone in Victoria, police say.

Police detected the speeding Ford sedan near Portland on Friday afternoon.

After intercepting the car, they found the Mount Gambier driver, 24, had never held a licence.

The vehicle was immediately impounded for 30 days under the hoon legislation.

The driver is expected to be charged on summons with various traffic related offences.
