Up to 250 new mobile phone towers will be erected across the nation to improve coverage under a $100 million coalition plan, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says.
Mr Abbott says coverage in regional and remote areas will be significantly improved under the policy.
"This is more good news from a federal coalition which is determined to tackle the issues that are of real concern to the people of Australia," he told reporters at a campaign event on Sydney's outskirts.
About $80 million will go to improving mobile phone coverage along major transport routes, in small communities and in locations prone to experiencing natural disasters.
An additional $20 million will be invested into a Mobile Black Spot Program to address unique mobile coverage problems, such as locations with high seasonal demand.
The Coalition will also work with NBN Co, a company fully owned by Australian taxpayers, to co-locate new mobile phone base stations with many of the NBN's fixed wireless broadband towers.
