A video has emerged online that shows a drone with a handgun attached to it firing bullets into the air.

The video, named "Flying Gun," was posted to YouTube on July 10 by a user named "Hogwit." The clip has been viewed more than two million times.

Underneath the clip the device is described as a "homemade multirotor with a semiautomatic handgun mounted on it."
The gun was made by mechanical engineering student Austin Haughwout from Connecticut, The Washington Times reports.

The US Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement it was investigating.

"The FAA will investigate the operation of an unmanned aircraft system in a Connecticut park to determine if any Federal Aviation Regulations were violated," it said.

"The FAA will also work with its law enforcement partners to determine if there were any violations of criminal statutes."

"People have been playing with RC [remote-controlled] toys for many decades," he said.

"The proper name for this is an RC quadcopter.

"The media keeps using the inappropriate word because it helps you to generate fear."
