US black bear accident leaves three dead

Three people have been killed in Florida after a SUV struck a black bear on a highway.

A black bear in Florida caused a road accident that killed three people and injured eight over the weekend.

The accident occurred on Sunday night on a highway through the Seminole Native American reservation in southern Florida.

After a woman in an SUV struck a 135kg black bear, other motorists got out of their cars to assist with the crash.

Three people assisting were killed when they were hit by another passing vehicle.

Eight people were injured in the accident and were transported by helicopter and road to nearby hospitals.

The tropical Everglades, where the accident occurred, are full of exotic wildlife but local officials say a black bear road accident is rare.
