US court annuls Samarco class action: Vale

Vale says a New York court has annulled nearly all of a class action over the dam wall collapse at Samarco, the Brazil mine it runs jointly with BHP Billiton.

Brazilian miner Vale SA says the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York has annulled nearly all parts of a class action lawsuit against the company and executives over the collapse of a tailings dam in Brazil in 2015.

The only parts of the case, over the Samarco disaster that killed 19 people, that remain ongoing are linked to specific statements made by Vale in 2013 and 2014, and a conference call in November 2015, the company said.

Vale jointly runs the Samarco mine with ASX-listed BHP Billiton.
