A United States military court has quashed the terrorism conviction of Australian man David Hicks.

It ends a 14-year ordeal for the former jackaroo, who was captured in Afghanistan and held in the Guantanamo Bay US military prison from 2002 until 2007.

As Karen Ashford reports, Mr Hicks says he feels relieved but defeated, and wants nothing more than payment of his medical expenses.
