A Californian property developer has started selling houses by lottery because there are not enough homes to meet the demand.

The developer has set up a lottery for properties in its Fusion Complex after buyers began camping out in front of other developments in the area, reports CNN's Alison Kosik.

Potential buyers who pre-qualify for a mortgage and have the down payment available go to the sales office once a month and receive a number. The company then draws winners and a backup for 10 homes each month.
