The scandal surrounding the sudden resignation of the head of the CIA David Petraeus over an affair has widened to involve the most senior US commander in Afghanistan, General John Allen.

A friend of Petraeus, Jill Kelley, contacted the FBI during the (northern) summer after receving a series of anonymous harrassing emails.

The FBI traced the emails to Paula Broadwell and while looking at her account found evidence of her affair with Petraeus.

Now, we have learned that Jill Kelley herself was exchanging inappropriate emails with a senior military figure General John Allen who leads coalition forces in Afghanistan and had been expected to become the overall head of NATO's military command.
