A US woman with a history of sneaking aboard planes has been placed under house arrest for six months by a court in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Judge William Raines ordered that 64-year-old Marilyn Hartman serve her house arrest at a mental health facility where she lives.

Under the terms of a two-month probation, she cannot go to any airports, railway stations or bus stops.

Hartman has tried several times to board planes without a ticket and was arrested twice last northern summer at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport.

Last month she was arrested at an airport bus shelter.
