The United States has slapped sanctions on Uganda after the country's leaders brought in tough anti-gay laws.
The law signed in February allows for "repeat homosexuals" to be jailed for life, outlaws the promotion of homosexuality and requires people to denounce gays to the authorities.
North American correspondent John Stempin is in Washington.
He told Greg Dyett the US warned Uganda that its laws were going to pose problems.
