US remains Asian force for decades: PM

The United States' superiority in the Asia-Pacific won't be overtaken any time soon, says Malcolm Turnbull.

Malcolm Turnbull says he expects the United States' presence in the Asia-Pacific to remain strong for at least many decades.

The prime minister is in China for the G20 leaders' summit where US President Barack Obama met with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss security and economic issues.

"The force of the United States, its presence, its stature, its military power, its economic strength will remain a leading force in this region and its military superiority cannot be overtaken in the lifetimes of almost all of us," Mr Turnbull told reporters in Hangzhou on Sunday.
