US service member killed in Afghanistan

A US service member carrying out operations against Islamic State militants in Afghanistan has been killed by an improvised explosive device.

A US service member has been killed in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province while carrying out operations against Islamic State, the US military says.

"The service member was killed conducting operations with Afghan forces when the patrol triggered an Improvised Explosive Device," the statement said following Tuesday's death.
