Utah Jazz waive Rose after Cavs NBA trade

One-time NBA MVP Derrick Rose could join the Washington Wizards after being waived by the Utah Jazz.

The Utah Jazz waived point guard Derrick Rose, who was acquired as part of a three-way trade just two days ago.

The 29-year-old Rose was traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers to Utah in a deal that also involved the Sacramento Kings prior to the NBA trading deadline on Thursday.

The Washington Wizards are one team expected to consider signing the former NBA MVP, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Wizards' John Wall is progressing with several more weeks of rehab after knee surgery.

Rose struggled in Cleveland, appearing in just 16 games (seven starts) while battling injuries.

He averaged 9.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 19.3 minutes per contest with the Cavs.

Over his nine-year NBA career, Rose has been hampered with various injuries, including a torn ACL.

He averages 19.2 points, 5.8 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 34.2 minutes through 486 games (476 starts) with the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and Cavaliers.

He was the 2009 Rookie of the Year and 2011 NBA MVP while with the Bulls.
