Varcoe, Vince face one-game AFL bans

Collingwood utility Travis Varcoe and Melbourne defender Bernie Vince have fallen foul of the AFL match review panel after round one.

Travis Varcoe's off-the-ball hit on Luke Dahlhaus has cost the Collingwood defender a one-game AFL ban.

Melbourne backman Bernie Vince also can accept a one-game suspension after he was charged with striking St Kilda forward Nathan Wright.

Varcoe was always in trouble for the bump during the first quarter of Friday's loss to the Western Bulldogs and was reported on the night.

Unless he successfully challenges the charge at the tribunal Varcoe will miss Thursday night's match against Richmond.

The match review panel charged Vince for his high hit on Wright in the third term of Saturday's win at Etihad Stadium.

Vince and Varcoe would risk two-game bans if they go to the tribunal.

Also on Monday, Port Adelaide onballer Hamish Hartlett was offered a $1500 fine for striking Sydney youngster Jordan Foote.

Hartlett was also fined during the pre-season, meaning if he commits another low-level offence this year it will mean a one-game ban.

Three players can accept $1500 fines for melee involvement, after the clash on the boundary line fence close to halftime during Geelong's Sunday win over Fremantle.

Fremantle pair Michael Walters and Cam McCarthy and Geelong recruit Zach Tuohy received heavier fines because they were second offences.

Carlton forward Levi Casboult can accept a $1000 fine for rough conduct against Richmond utility Nick Vlastuin, while Tigers defender Alex Rance was cleared of a match-day report for rough conduct against Matthew Wright.
