Venezuelan golfer Jhonattan Vegas says his tight bond with younger brother Julio could see them become the first siblings since Italy's Molinaris in 2009 to lift the World Cup of Golf trophy this week in Melbourne.

The Vegas family are on their first trip to Australia but aren't here for a holiday.

Jhonattan impressed on his maiden outing, finishing ninth at last weekend's Australian Open in Sydney.

The two-time PGA Tour winner says the World Cup's team format - fourball (best ball) and foursomes (alternate shot) - brings a different element into play.

"We've played so much together, obviously since we've been little kids," the world No.74 said.

"I know what he hits, how far he hits it, his misses, everything about it and I think that's going to be definitely a big key."

Jhonattan is four years older than Julio, who plays on the Latinoamerica Tour, and joked he would be boss at Kingston Heath when play gets underway on Thursday.

"I'm the older brother, so he'd better listen," he said.

"We've played a lot of amateur events in the past together and we've had a lot of success.

"It's not only about playing by yourself but teaming up to have a good tournament.

"We've been able to do it in the past and I think we'll have a good week."

With an older and younger brother also in the golf-mad family, the Vegas brothers moved to the US to pursue their dreams.

Julio played college golf in Austin, Texas, where he was teammates with world No.5 Jordan Spieth, who won the Open at Royal Sydney.

He said the signs were there early that Spieth was going to be a champion.

"Everybody knew he was going to be good but I guess he kind of blew everybody's mind," Julio said.
