The long-awaited rematch between boxers Danny Green and Anthony Mundine will stretch into 2017 with the fierce rivals unable to decide on a location.
The pair hoped to have Green-Mundine II in the ring before the end of the year, a decade after the 2006 blockbuster in Sydney that Mundine won on points.
But Green said he wanted to fight in his hometown of Perth or Melbourne where he's had his last three bouts, while Mundine wanted the fight to again be in Sydney.
"The last time we fought in Sydney so it would be fairer for it to be in Perth or Melbourne," Green told AAP.
He said that they had also had strong interest in hosting the super fight from the Northern Territory government and South Australia.
While they have agreed on a catch-weight of 83kg, the warhorses also need to nut out minor details such as who would walk into the ring first and promotional material.
"Neither of us wants to give an inch but we need to come to a decision very soon," said Green, hopeful the issues would be decided before the end of the month.
Green, 43, said he has been working on his strength and injury prevention as he bided his time, having recovered from his Australian Cruiserweight title win over Kane Watts in early August.
Mundine recently posted a video to Facebook detailing his recovery from hip surgery that he underwent earlier this year in the UK under leading orthopaedic surgeon Dr Derek McMinn.
The 41-year-old said that before the "hip resurfacing" on his osteoarthritis he couldn't even bend down to tie his shoelaces.
Mundine was stopped in his last fight in November 2015 by American Charles Hatley.
"After a successful surgery my movement is back to where it was 10 years ago," Mundine said.
While Green was confident that the fight would be held in January or February next year, Mundine said he would need until May - 14 months after the surgery - to be "good to go".
Green said his opponent would need the new hip if the fight was to be any contest.
"After his last couple of performances he's going to want to feel like a new guy," Green said.
"I still believe I will beat him comprehensively."
