US President Donald Trump has mocked Oprah Winfrey on Twitter and challenged the entertainment icon to run against him in 2020.

The late-night tweet came after Winfrey led a panel discussion of 14 Republican, Democrat and Independent voters from Grand Rapids, Michigan about the state of US politics on the 60 Minutes current affairs program.

The actress and television host is now a contributor to the CBS program.

"Just watched a very insecure Oprah Winfrey, who at one point I knew very well, interview a panel of people on 60 Minutes. The questions were biased and slanted, the facts incorrect." Trump said.

"Hope Oprah runs so she can be exposed and defeated just like all of the others!" he added.
Speculation has swirled about a potential run at the presidency from Winfrey. But she has repeatedly denied any plans to do so.

"I am actually humbled by the fact that people think that I could be a leader of the free world, but it's just not in my spirit. It's not my DNA," Winfrey recently told US network CBS.

A January NPR, PBS NewsHour and Marist poll found that while 64 per cent of Americans have a favourable view of Winfrey, only 35 per cent wanted her to run in 2020.

Winfrey made no declarative statements for or against the president in the program. But she did ask questions ranging from whether the US is better off economically to whether respect for the country is eroding around the world.
