Veteran Sebastien Loeb has turned back the years on the second day of the Rally Guanajuato Mexico, winning two stages and sitting 7.2 seconds off the race lead.
The 44-year-old nine-time world champion last raced in 2015 in Monte Carlo, and started the day in tenth after Thursday's opening stage.
But the Citroen driver put himself into contention with wins on the El Chocolate 2 and Ortega 2 special stage to sit within touching distance of rally leader Dani Sordo.
Estonia's Ott Tanak sits in third, 11 seconds from the lead, with a win on the Autodromo de Leon 1 stage.
Northern Irishman Kris Meeke - the winner of this event last season - was leading the rally after the second stage when he took first place on the Duarte-Derramadero 1 stage. He finished the day fourth, 25 seconds from the lead and 14 seconds off a podium place.
Fellow Briton Gus Greensmith is ninth, eight minutes 13 seconds off the lead.
