Gold Coast will be without Jarrod Harbrow when they play Hawthorn this week after the veteran defender was charged with drink driving on Monday morning.

In a further disruption to the Suns, young star Jack Martin was assaulted over the weekend in a separate incident.

Harbrow was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol by Queensland Police after he recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.108.

The 28-year-old had been drinking at home before he got behind the wheel.

The Suns have withdrawn Harbrow from AFL selection and will meet with him and the leadership group before imposing further sanctions.

"Jarrod has expressed to us that he is extremely embarrassed by his actions and understands his poor judgement has let many people and his club down," Suns football chief Marcus Ashcroft said.

"In the next period of time Jarrod will have to work hard to regain the trust and respect of his teammates, peers and the wider Gold Coast community.

"On top of the legal sanctions to be imposed in due course, we can confirm that Jarrod will be unavailable for senior selection this week."

The indiscretion is ill-timed for Gold Coast, who face a winnable match against the Hawks at the MCG on the back of their shock win over West Coast.

Martin was assaulted over the weekend and police have charged a man in relation to the incident.

The 22-year-old has been cleared of any misconduct and is preparing to play this weekend.
