Natalie Hutchins has been named Victoria's new minister for women and prevention of family violence, filling the void after Fiona Richardson's untimely death.
Ms Hutchins will retain the industrial relations and Aboriginal affairs portfolios and is already a member of the state government's family violence cabinet committee.
In a statement announcing the shuffle, Premier Daniel Andrews said there was "no one better" to continue Ms Richardson's fight.
"She will honour the legacy of the late Fiona Richardson by helping implement every recommendation of the Royal Commission into Family Violence in full," he said.
"As minister, Ms Hutchins has led the fight for equal pay for women, delivered family violence leave for the Victorian Public Service and overseen the highest number of female councillors in local government ever."
Ms Hutchins' local government portfolio will go to consumer affairs, gaming and liquor regulation minister Marlene Kairouz.
Ms Richardson died in August aged 50 after a battle with cancer.
She was Australia's first family violence minister and oversaw an exhaustive and groundbreaking royal commission into the issue.
