A Victorian police officer has been charged with 57 child exploitation offences and suspended without pay.

The senior constable from the Eastern Region has been charged on summons with offences relating to the alleged transmission of child exploitation material.

He was charged on Friday and will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on December 2.
