Victoria's fire risk remains high despite cooler conditions with fears any fires breaking out could prove difficult to control.

Dry conditions remain across much of the state with the Country Fire Authority warning people to stay vigilant.

"Although we have had a few cooler days recently, it doesn't mean the risk isn't still there so we can't become complacent," acting deputy chief officer Rohan Luke said.

"Much of the state is still very dry, meaning if a fire was to break out it would be difficult to bring under control."

Firefighters are particularly concerned with conditions on Friday predicted to be dry, warm and windy.

A fire danger period remains in place across the state with landowners urged to remain vigilant if preparing for a burnoff even with conditions.

The warning comes after a 44-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday following a series of fires believed to have been deliberately lit.

One blaze ripped through a vacant home at Hopetoun Avenue in Morwell, with another set on fire in the same street shortly later.

Fire crews were initially called to a hotel fire on Collins and Buckley Streets.
