About 10 homes have been inundated in southwest Victoria and at least 40 more are surrounded by water but the SES says there have been no major incidents after the Glenelg river flooded overnight.
The river peaked at 6.1m about 5am - a little higher than expected.
A spokesman for the SES said the Casterton community was well-prepared and there were no major incidents.
"The community is very resilient to floods. They understand it very well," the SES spokesman said.
The SES will not be able to assess the full extent of the damage until floodwaters recede in about 24 hours.
One family relocated overnight and a milk tanker driver had to be rescued after his vehicle became bogged in floodwaters but no injuries have been reported.
A flood warning remains in place for the region, with light showers forecast for the morning and another rain band expected to move through the catchment area in the evening.
Minor flooding also occurred in Albury and minor warnings remain in place for other parts of the state.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting another band of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday that could lead to further decent rainfalls inland.
