A majority of Victorians are being ripped off by their energy provider, new government data shows.

The Victorian government has launched a new website, Victorian Energy Compare, to help ease bill shock and get Victorians a better deal on their power.

So far the website has saved 90 per cent of users' money, with half saving $330 per year by switching providers, the government says.

The independent price comparison tool, launched on Saturday, allows people to enter data from their smart meter or power bill to find the best offer from every available provider in the state.
