Hells Angels sergeant at arms Peter `Skitzo' Hewat has been charged and held in custody as part of a police crackdown on outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Hewat, 58, a tow truck operator and Hells Angel's East County office-bearer, was denied bail in an out-of-sessions court hearing after police searched his Mickleham home and his towing business in Craigieburn on Thursday.

He faces 13 charges, with police alleging $47,000 in cash was seized from his business as well as weapons, a stolen car and car parts, cannabis, steroids, two flick-knives and syringes.

When arrested at his business, Hewat allegedly threatened a police officer and told him "families are now on the line" and "fair go".

Hewat described the charges as "junk" when they were read to him during the out-of-sessions hearing.

He had been on remand since March after similar raids on his home and business, but was granted bail in August after claiming a failing business and ill wife constituted exceptional circumstances.

A senior member of the Hells Angels for 11 years, Hewat's role at the club includes maintaining order at meetings and managing the conduct of members.

He has two adult children and a wife who suffers from bi-polar disorder.

The bail justice said Hewat needed to show cause why he should not again be remanded in custody.

Hewat argued his wife's illness remained a reason why bail should be granted.

He also said the steroids found at his work were prescribed by a doctor to treat a shoulder injury.

Hewat has been charged with two counts of possessing a drug of dependence, four counts of handling stolen goods, one of motor vehicle theft, two of possessing a prohibited weapon and one of threatening serious injury.

He also single counts of possessing the proceeds of crime, possessing ammunition and using threatening language in a public place.

The bail justice refused Hewat bail and remanded him in custody to face Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday morning.
