Strong winds and heavy rain lashed Victoria over the weekend with emergency workers called to 230 jobs across the state.

Three homes in Strathmerton and one near Rochester lost their roofs and four more homes were damaged as the worst of the storms hit towns near the NSW and Victorian border on Sunday afternoon.

The state's north-east was hardest hit with 50 calls about trees creating traffic hazards, 25 calls about building damage and five for flooding.

Calmer weather conditions on Sunday evening resulted in a quieter night for the SES, a spokeswoman said.
