Vic house destroyed in blaze

A home has been destroyed in western Victoria, with embers sparking spot fires in neighbouring properties, the CFA warns.

Firefighters have stopped a fire from spreading after it threatened a town in western Victoria and destroyed a home.

The blaze started at a house at the intersection of Faith Street and Nhill Road in Dimboola and sparked a grassfire.

Fire crews and vehicles are still controlling the fire and local streets remain closed.

An emergency warning for Dimboola issued by the CFA was downgraded to an advice message at 8.40pm (AEDT).

Earlier, the CFA reported that embers from the house fire were spotting into neighbouring properties.

There is no threat to the community, but there is still smoke and people are advised to avoid the area, the CFA says.
