Vic man in limbo over terror charges

A Melbourne man who pleaded guilty to funding terrorism after sending money to a man trying to reach Syria still does not know what his punishment will be.

A Melbourne man who pleaded guilty to terror charges after sending $16,000 to someone trying to reach Syria cannot be sentenced until an appeal against another case is finalised.

Hassan El Sabsabi, 24, appeared in the Victorian Supreme Court on Friday having pleaded guilty in 2015 to two charges of preparing for incursions into foreign states for the purposes of engaging in hostile activities.

It has been almost a year since the chef pleaded guilty, but he cannot be sentenced until the Court of Appeal rules on the case of another man which may affect El Sabsabi's charges.
