Vic man murdered dancer in jealous rage

A Melbourne man due to stand trial for murder has admitted killing his partner.

A Melbourne man has admitted murdering his partner because he thought she had been unfaithful.

Brunswick West man Parminder Singh, 29, was due to stand trial for murder when he pleaded guilty in the Victorian Supreme Court on Friday.

Choreographer and dancer Nikita Chawla, 23, died from stab wounds in their apartment on January 9 this year.

During an earlier hearing, prosecutors had said Singh flew into a rage and stabbed Ms Chawla after going through her text messages.

Ms Chawla's brother Tarang got to his feet as Singh entered his plea in court on Friday.

Mother Sunila Chawla clutched a framed photograph of her daughter throughout the brief hearing before Justice Lex Lasry.

Speaking outside court, Sunila described her daughter as perfect.

"She was perfect. Just perfect," Mrs Chawla said, crying and holding a photo of the young woman.

Singh will face a committal hearing on November 13.
