Vic man threatens passengers with knife

A man has been captured on camera threatening passengers with a knife on a Melbourne train before he was arrested by protective services officers.

Footage has emerged of a man threatening passengers with a large knife on a Melbourne train.

A man was arrested by protective services officers (PSOs) at North Melbourne station on Sunday evening after threatening passengers on the Sydenham line.

Transport Minister Terry Mulder says the incident shows PSOs are effective.

"The fact that this knife has been taken off this particular individual via PSOs indicates how successful they have been on the station," Mr Mulder told Fairfax radio.

"If that knife had been left with that individual who knows what would have happened."
