Lawyers for Geoff Shaw are negotiating with prosecutors about the Victorian balance-of-power MP's 24 dishonesty charges.
Shaw, 46, is facing 23 charges of obtaining financial advantage by deception and one count of misconduct in public office over the alleged misuse of his parliamentary fuel card and car throughout 2011.
The Liberal turned independent will plead not guilty to all charges, the Melbourne Magistrates Court heard last week.
Shaw's solicitor Quinn McCormack requested a three-week adjournment on Monday to allow for discussions with prosecutors.
"There are additional negotiations occurring at the moment," Ms McCormack told the court.

Magistrate Charles Rozencwajg granted the adjournment, and said he hoped the negotiations would lead to some kind of resolution.
"I have got to take your word that there's something concrete that is being achieved here," he said.
The matter will return to court for further mention on December 18.
The charges were withdrawn, replaced with a single representative charge and then dramatically reinstated last week after Mr Rozencwajg deemed that Shaw was unsuitable for a diversion program.
The diversion program allows offenders to take responsibility for crimes without having a conviction or a guilty finding recorded against them.
If a guilty finding is made against Shaw and the independent MP loses his seat, a by-election will have to be held in Frankston ahead of the state-wide poll in November next year.
