Vic Nationals MP Hugh Delahunty to retire

Victorian Sports Minister Hugh Delahunty has announced he is retiring from politics and will not recontest his seat of Lowan at the November election.

Victorian Sports Minister Hugh Delahunty will leave politics at the upcoming state election.

The Nationals MP will not recontest his seat of Lowan at the November poll, having served in parliament since 1999.

Mr Delahunty, 64, said after more than two decades in public life, he wanted to spend more time with his family, play golf and travelling.

"My wife Judie has been a great support to me and I now look forward to spending quality time with her and my family," he said in a statement on Monday.

Mr Delahunty has served as minister for sports and veterans affairs since the election of the coalition government in 2010.

Fellow Nationals MP Jeanette Powell is also bowing out of politics, having announced last week she would not recontest the seat of Shepparton at the November election.
