Vic Police crime takes up IBAC time

Nearly half of all of IBAC's investigations in the last financial year were into Victoria Police, the corruption watchdog's annual report shows.

Victoria's corruption watchdog got more than 3000 complaints of police misconduct in the last financial year.

Police corruption allegations accounted for more than 60 per cent of the 5000 complaints assessed by the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission in 2016/17, the authority's annual report shows.

The report, which was released on Thursday, also reveals of all the allegations IBAC then launched investigations into, almost half were into police.

"In 2016-17, almost half (44 per cent) of IBAC's active investigations were into alleged serious corruption or misconduct by Victoria Police," it reads.

Among those inquiries was a probe into the treatment of vulnerable people at Ballarat Police Station and another into illicit drug use by police officers.
