Vic police hunt armed clown

Police are hunting a man dressed as a clown and armed with a gun who is threatening people in Melbourne's western suburbs.

A man wearing a clown mask and armed with a gun has been terrifying Melburnians in a series of bizarre incidents.

There have been at least three cases of the clown following people in the western suburbs, a police spokeswoman said.

In each case, the masked man is in the passenger seat of a car while his driver gets them in close to a pedestrian.

A woman walking in Sydenham early on Tuesday morning called police after she encountered the clown.

In that incident, the armed clown got out of the car and began walking towards her until another car scared him off.

Minutes later, the clown rolled down the window at a set of lights and threatened a 25-year-old man waiting to cross the street.

The clown and his driver then sped away.

At 6am (AEDT) on Tuesday the clown drove past a 31-year-old runner and pointed his gun at him.

The clown threatened the man before driving off.

The duo were inside a light coloured Toyota Camry sedan and a Mitsubishi Magna in the three incidents.
