Vic premier meets with Tom Meagher

The husband of murdered Melbourne woman Jill Meagher and Victorian Premier Denis Napthine have met to discuss problems with the parole system.

Victorian Premier Denis Napthine says he and the husband of murdered Melbourne woman Jill Meagher agree the adult parole board needs to be improved.

Dr Napthine met with Tom Meagher on Wednesday discuss his concerns with the Adult Parole Board of Victoria, after his wife was killed by a parolee.

Mr Meagher had expressed his disappointment that he was not interviewed as part of a now-complete review of the parole system.

Dr Napthine said his meeting with Mr Meagher was private, but they were both looking forward to the recommendations of the review.

"Mr Meagher and I agreed that there was a need to improve the operation of the adult parole board," he told reporters on Thursday.

"We recognised that the government's already made significant steps in terms of legislative change that has already passed the parliament, and further legislative change which is before the parliament."

Dr Napthine said it was up to Ms Meagher's family as to whether a memorial to her should be erected, but it was worth investigating a formal memorial - such as a garden - to all women who are victims of violent attacks.
