The cost of Victoria's regional trains maintenance issues could blow out to $60 million.

Regional rail commuters endured months of delays after excessive wheel wear and problems with level crossing boom gates resulted in widespread train cancellations on the V/Line network.

Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan on Thursday told a committee the full cost of replacement buses, refunds and extra maintenance would not be known until all services resumed in July, but is estimated to be between $50 and $60 million.
