People who know a man who raped a teenage girl in her Melbourne home need to come forward, police say.
The masked rapist broke into a Roxburgh Park house on February 26 and assaulted the 16-year-old while her parents slept in the next room.
Police have released photos of a pink Mossimo T-shirt and black balaclava they believe he was wearing, which were found in a nearby vacant lot.
The items will be forensically tested but detectives hope someone in the community will recognise the T-shirt, in particular, or ASICS runners he was wearing.
"If you know who he is, you need to tell us or you need to encourage him to come and see police," Detective Senior Sergeant Jason Walsh told reporters on Friday.
Police are concerned he may have stalked the 16-year-old before the attack and appealed to him to surrender.
"You know this behaviour is not on, you know it's not right," Det Snr Sgt Walsh said.
"The sexual crime squad ... understands what you're feeling.
"You need to come to a police station, you need to call us before we come and see you."
CCTV footage from nearby homes has captured what detectives have described as the man's "distinctive walk".
