Police suspect arsonists are responsible for a fire that burnt down half of a Victoria secondary school.

They believe the offenders entered the northern wing of the secondary school in Smith Street, Daylesford, about 3am on Monday and set the campus alight.

A crime scene guard stayed at the school overnight, and an arson chemist will inspect the damage on Monday morning.
