Vic thunderstorm asthma risk subsides

Thunderstorm asthma warnings for part of Victoria have been lowered but the risk of an event remains moderate, health authorities say.

Victorians with asthma can breathe a bit easier as the risk of a thunderstorm asthma outbreak drops.

Health authorities earlier on Saturday said there was a high risk of an event in North-Central Victoria because of storms, wind and high temperatures and pollen counts.

The warning has since been downgraded to moderate, with swathes of the state at a similar risk of an outbreak.

People with asthma should continue to follow their action plan and take their usual medications, health authorities said.

The warning system was bought in after 10 people died and thousands were hospitalised in a freak thunderstorm asthma event last November.

The victims' deaths are the subject of a coronial investigation.
