A Victorian woman has been charged with religious vilification after a Facebook post referring to threats to burn down mosques.

A Victorian woman has been charged with serious religious vilification after posting comments about Islam on Facebook.

The 38-year-old Swan Hill woman was charged on December 15 for the November 27 post, with police alleging her statement would encourage others to commit harm to Muslims.

It is believed the post referred to threats to burn down mosques.
