Test opener Marcus Harris continued his stellar Sheffield Shield form as Victoria piled on the runs against Tasmania at Junction Oval in Melbourne.
The Shield leaders ended a boundary-laden day one at 7-376, despite being reduced to 2-7 after winning the toss.
From there Victoria took control with Harris falling just short of a second consecutive century when he was caught on the boundary for 94.
The innings extends Harris's lead at the top of the competition's run-scorers list with 864 runs at 86.4. Tasmania's Matthew Wade is next 663 at 60.27.
The in-form Nic Maddinson continued the heavy run-scoring, eventually falling for 136 after netting his third century in as many matches for the Vics, with an innings that included 15 fours and a six.
Harris and Maddinson put on 170 for the third wicket at better than four an over for the Shield frontrunners.
Cameron White contributed a quickfire 41, while Matt Short added 45.
Tasmania's pace attack had few answers after Riley Meredith's (3-69) double early breakthrough, with even the Shield's leading wicket-taker Jackson Bird (2-72) failing to take a scalp until late in the day.
While Harris and Maddinson shone, there was no good news for Ashes aspirant Peter Siddle who was named 12th man with Andrew Fekete promoted to the starting side.
Highly-rated youngster Will Pucovski was dismissed for a duck batting at No.3, while out-of-form opener Travis Dean went for 2.
Australia Test captain Tim Paine is sitting out the match due to soreness, with Wade taking the wicketkeeper gloves and captaincy.
